(MENAFN) Three coal miners lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in a gas-related accident at an underground coal mine in Quang Ninh province, northern Vietnam, early Sunday, Vietnamese news agency reported.

The accident took place while a team of five miners was working at the Duong Huy Coal Company’s underground site, according to the report.

By 12:30 p.m., rescuers had evacuated two workers from the mine and rushed them to a hospital for emergency care.

At 1:30 p.m., recovery teams retrieved the bodies of the three remaining miners who succumbed to toxic gas exposure, the report confirmed.
